Maintenance condition matters for the entire electrical system, not just the overcurrent protective devices. Protective devices are essential for interrupting fault currents, but their effectiveness depends on the surrounding equipment being in good shape. If insulation is damaged, conductors are nicked or corroded, connections are loose, or enclosures are compromised, the risk of shock, arc flash, or fire can remain or even increase, even if breakers or fuses are functioning properly.

Regular maintenance helps verify insulation integrity, grounding continuity, proper tightness of connections, and clean, undamaged enclosures. It also ensures that switches, relays, transformers, cables, and other components operate as intended and that protective devices will trip or isolate faults when needed. Neglecting maintenance on any part of the system can create hazards that the protective devices alone cannot fully mitigate.

So the statement is false because maintenance condition is a safety consideration for all electrical equipment, not solely for overcurrent protective devices.
